How to Motivate Yourself to Lose Weight

Find the reason why

The first step is to establish why you want to lose weight. It might be because your health depends on it, you want to be more energetic or you want to fit into some hip clothes. Whichever the reason may be, identifying it and reminding yourself each morning will go a long way in motivating you to keep at it.

Jotting your goals on paper

If your goal is to lose weight, you’ll soon realize that this is too vague. You need to break it into small goals. Writing these goals on paper will act significantly in motivating you to lose weight. For that reason, take out your notebook and a pen and jot down your specific goals. Do you want to lose a specific number of pounds? Do you have specific exercises you are going to be performing? Are there foods you are going to cut on? All these are solid goals. Once you have them down on paper, tick them off one by one. This will make weight loss manageable.

Support

Truth be told, embarking on a weight loss program is a lonely venture. You’ll probably be on your own trying to pass on party foods or working out incessantly, especially if your friends do not share your vision. In such cases, chances are you are going to cave in and give up. It is therefore essential to seek support. You could do this by joining a gym, getting a workout buddy, hiring a health coach or signing up for an online community of like-minded people. These steps will boost your morale and help overcome stints of discouragement.

Reward yourself

Human beings are always seeking for incentives. Setting a reward system will aid in motivating yourself to lose weight. Of course, your reward system should not jeopardize your weight loss program like taking junk food. Healthy rewards include going to the spa when you’ve accomplished your weekly goals or buying yourself some training apparel after training for some time. All these will help motivate you.

Self-approval

Most people seek to lose weight simply because they don’t like the shape and size of their bodies. However, failing to appreciate yourself until you hit your ideal weight is not advisable. This is because if you do not appreciate yourself the way you are, no number on the scale will make you appreciate yourself. As such, you have to cut down on self-loathing and instead strive to approve yourself.
In conclusion, the journey to losing excess weight and getting your ideal weight on the scale is not easy and comes with hurdles to jump.
