Forskolin is not recommended for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. The drug is not prescribed to patients who have bleeding disorders, heart disease and chronic low blood pressure. The medicine should not be taken immediately before, during or after a surgery. Forskolin interacts with many other medications. Forskolin interacts with medicines prescribed to treat high blood pressure. Such medicines are calcium channel blockers and have major interactions so they should not be combined. Forskolin reduces blood pressure. The medicines used to treat high blood pressure also attempt to do the same. Hence, there can be a combined effect that is definitely risky. Blood pressure may drop to alarming lows if Forskolin is taken with calcium channel blockers. Common medications for high blood pressure are nifedipine, verapamil, diltiazem, isradipine, felodipine and amlodipine. These are the generic names of the drugs. Avoid them and their branded versions.
Forskolin interacts with medicines that are used to increase the blood flow to the heart. These are nitrates that have the same effect as Forskolin. As is the case with calcium channel blockers, Forskolin and nitrates will have a cumulative effect on the blood flow to the heart. Patients experience lightheadedness and dizziness as a result. There can be more serious complications with a sudden increase in the blood flow and the heart could be subjected to enormous pressure. Forskolin interacts with all nitrates including nitroglycerin and isosorbide. Avoid their branded versions too.
Forskolin interacts with antihypertensive drugs. The interaction is not as severe as one would experience by combining this drug with calcium channel blockers but the side effects are serious enough to exercise caution. It is better to avoid combining Forskolin with antihypertensive drugs. If at all you should combine, you must speak with your doctor first and then be completely certain of the extent of interaction. Do not combine Forskolin with captopril, enalapril, losartan, valsartan, diltiazem, amlodipine, hydrochlorothiazide and furosemide or their branded versions.
Forskolin interacts with medicines used to treat blood clotting. Avoid combining anticoagulants or anti-platelet medicines with Forskolin unless absolutely necessary. The interactions are moderate but discomforting enough. Forskolin has a tendency to slow blood clotting, thus serving the same purpose as anticoagulants or anti-platelet medications. The compounded effect could increase bleeding and bruising. Forskolin interacts with aspirin, diclofenac, clopidogrel, ibuprofen, naproxen, dalteparin, enoxaparin, heparin and warfarin or their branded versions.
